One bizarre discovery of the next-gen TV era is that classic films are "HD Ready". HDNet recently ran the classic Jack Lemon/Tony Curtis movie Some Like It Hot, and was enthralled. It's uncanny how absolutely awesome the picture was. Like it was a Cohen Brothers movie, stylishly shot in B&W last week with state of the art hardware. I’m on one of those enormo led TVs and the picture is gorgeous; the supporting role of Marilyn Monroe so vividly portrayed it was kind of distracting. I finally get why a generation obsessed over her, finally gawking at what all those sweaty dudes saw back when you wore a suit to the movies.
There’s a lot to recommend about the movie, not the least of which was a surprisingly hard hitting car shootout that wouldn’t be out of place in contemporary action flick, albeit one with those boxy rides and gangsters hanging all over them blasting in all directions.
Fun stuff.
